Six members of a crime group which has been one of the main suppliers and distributors of methamphetamine in the region of Ruse were arrested in a special operation of anti-organized crime officers under the supervision of the Regional Prosecution Office between July 15 and 16, the Interior Ministry reported on Tuesday.
Two of the suspects were caught in the act of delivering narcotic substances. They were transporting the consignment to Ruse on motorcycles from another city. The delivery was to be dropped in the grass by the road and to be collected later by other people, but a wildfire caused a change of plan. The two "mules" were arrested while making a second attempt to deliver the drugs.
The law enforcers checked six locations, where they found methamphetamine, marijuana, two weighing scales, a grinder and BGN 1,690 in cash. They also impounded eight telephones and a revolver without a serial number, with 41 rounds for it.
Four of the suspects were taken into 72-hour custody. They are charged under the Penal Code with participating in an organized crime group and acquiring and possessing illicit drugs for the purpose of distribution.
