Bulgarian institutions and politicians on Sunday condemned the attack on former US President Donald Trump, who was shot at a rally in the state of Pennsylvania on Saturday night. He was shot in the right ear while giving a speech. Several people were injured.

They conveyed messages for protection of democracy and against hate speech between politicians. 

„Political violence is unacceptable and incompatible with democracy," the government wrote on Facebook.
“We are deeply shocked by the appalling attack on former President Trump during an event of his campaign for candidate,” the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry wrote on X.

Bulgarian head of State strongly condemned the assassination attempt on former US President Trump. “Violence and hatred challenge the democratic political process and are unacceptable,” he wrote on X.

On Facebook, GERB leader Boyko Borissov wrote: "Violence has no place in a civilized and democratic world. We should be aware that hate speech only divides our societies. 

"Violence can never be a solution to political differences. The shooting of former President Donald Trump is an unacceptable act," Continue the Change Co-chair Kiril Petkov wrote on Facebook.

“The Vazrazhdane party expresses full support for former US president Donald Trump and condemns political violence in all its forms, leader Kostadin Kostadinov said in a media statement.

Movement for Rights and Freedoms Chairman Delyan Peevski said: “The escalation of political confrontation and the blatant assault on the life of a world political leader like US presidential candidate Donald Trump is of great concern.

"The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) strongly condemns any violence against the individual, any attack on the political rights of citizens to vote and to be voted for, on the free and fair electoral process," the party wrote on its website.

"I express my full support for freedom of expression, freedom of speech and freedom to be different, in the current circumstances of confrontation, which seems to have peaked in almost all countries of the world," There Is Such a People leader Slavi Trifonov wrote in a Facebook post.

Commenting on the attempt on the life of former US President Donald Trump Movement for Rights and Freedoms Chairman Dzhevdet Chakarov said that political violence has no place in society, especially in the 21st century when people are called upon to resolve their differences with dialogue and respect.
Global leaders and European Commission officials too condemned the attack.
