The parliamentary group of Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) has sent an alert to the Prosecutor General, the Prosecutor's College of the Supreme Judicial Council and the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office in connection with a statement of the Movements for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) honorary chairman Ahmed Dogan about political pressure, it transpired in Parliament on Friday.

MP Bogdan Bogdanov said that the alert has been submitted in order to make a full investigation whether there is pressure and whether the prosecution is used for political purposes. "Delyan Peevski is mentioned too as he is alleged to have used these institutions to exert pressure on MPs as well," he said.

According to Boyko Rashkov, Ahmed Dogan's statement alleges threats of " mafia-style action". "It is implied that such actions have been carried out by those now in power in the parliamentary group of the MRF," the MP said. He said this should have drawn the attention of the prosecution.

The filing of this alert is in no way related to any talk of supporting the government and fulfilling a second mandate. This is our independent action, Lena Borislavova said. “Regarding the second mandate, the situation has changed, so we are in negotiations with our colleagues and I hope we will have an official position to present to you soon,” she said.

Earlier in the day, President Rumen Radev said that next week he would hand over the second exploratory mandate for forming a government. The CC-DB should receive the second mandate as the second largest parliamentary force.
