Parliament established on Thursday an ad hoc committee to investigate evidence of crimes committed in connection with the activities of Ivelin Mihailov, the ideologist of the Velichie party, and the "Historical Park" cultural-historical complex built in the village of Neofit Rilski. 143 MPs voted in favour, 17 against, and two abstained.
The proposal for the establishment of the committee was submitted by independent MPs Darin Georgiev, Victoria Vassileva and Georgi Kukov, who were part of the defunct parliamentary group of Velichie. Later the draft decision was accepted and submitted by MPs from Vazrazhdane and There Is Such a People.
The ad hoc committee consists of 18 MPs elected on a parity basis - three from each parliamentary group - and is elected for a one-month term.
According to the decision, the committee is to establish all facts and circumstances regarding the existence of crimes committed by Ivelin Mihailov and individuals and legal entities related to him and the "Historical Park” complex, against the financial, tax and social security system, fraud and influence peddling, and evidence of complicity with them of persons related to representatives of local or central government. The committee will also establish all the facts and circumstances concerning the possible existence of evidence of inaction by the prosecutor's office, the Ministry of Interior and other competent authorities and evidence of the so-called umbrella over Ivelin Mihailov and the activities of the “Historical Park” complex.
