The Ministry of the Interior celebrated 145 years since its establishment with a ceremony at the Monument to the Unknown Soldier in Sofia on Friday. Two helicopters of Border Police flew over the attendees.

At the Alexander Nevsky Monument, specialized equipment was arranged, which employees of the Ministry of Interior structures use in their daily work.

"I cordially congratulate you on the occasion of the 145th anniversary of the founding of the Interior Ministry," Patriarch Daniil told the Ministry's employees and wished them good luck and safety on their job.

Among the attendees at the ceremony were National Assembly Chair Raya Nazaryan, Vice President Iliana Iotova, caretaker Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov, MPs, military officers, ambassadors and heads of state institutions.

Over the years, the Ministry of Interior has gone through many changes, but it has preserved the guiding mission of generations of Bulgarians - to serve Bulgaria uncompromisingly, said the caretaker Minister Kalin Stoyanov in his speech. We continue this mission in the face of new challenges - cyber attacks, terrorist threats, protecting our European borders, the caretaker minister added.

The leadership of the Ministry of Interior laid wreaths in front of the monument to the policemen who died in the line of duty.
