Vote-buying schemes remain the same as in previous elections, often voters are bribed with promises of debt forgiveness, said caretaker Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov, who was on an official visit to Primorsko (Southeast Bulgaria) on Thursday. He added that the usual prices for a vote are between BGN 50 and BGN 100.

"So far, there have been four times as many pre-trial proceedings initiated, and there are about 2.5% more signals [compared to the elections last year]," he said.

Stoyanov argued that this could be explained by two reasons - that perhaps the citizens have more trust [in the institutions] and submit more signals, or the fact that the Interior Ministry has started preparing for the elections long before the vote.
