site.btaBulgaria Deeply Concerned by Iran's Unacceptable Attack on Israel, Foreign Ministry Says

Bulgaria is deeply concerned by the unacceptable Iranian attack on Israel, the Foreign Ministry here said early Sunday in a position on the social network X. 

This is an unprecedented escalation which poses a serious threat to regional security, the Ministry noted. The Government of Bulgaria is closely monitoring the development of the situation and is ready to take the necessary actions to protect and guarantee the security of Bulgarian citizens in the region. Lasting and sustainable peace in the Middle East can only be achieved with full respect for the fundamental principles of the UN Charter and all relevant international treaties and conventions, the position said.

Bulgaria calls for maximum restraint and de-escalation, the Foreign Ministry added.

Earlier that night, Israel reported that Iran had directed over 200 drones and missiles into Israeli territory  and requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council in connection with the attack. Iran said the attack was in response to the April 1 strike on its consulate in Damascus that killed senior Iranian military officers.
