The village of Chelopech, Sofia Region will celebrate Chinese Language Day. The Chinese Embassy in Bulgaria, the Confucius Institute at the University of Veliko Tarnovo, the China Cultural Centre in Sofia, the Municipality of Chelopech, two schools and a kindergarten are involved in the initiative.

The celebrations on April 13 will proceed under the motto "A Bridge for Mutual Understanding between Civilizations", said Zhanna Tsentovskaya, chief expert at the Department of Culture, Sport, Health and Social Affairs of Chelopech Municipality.

Visitors will have a chance to learn more about the traditions and culture of China as presented in an exhibition of traditional costume, food, a photo exhibition, calligraphy, games and a Chinese tea ceremony. School students will perform dances, songs and demonstrations and will take a quiz.

The event is organized for the first time. There is a Chinese volunteer working in the gold and copper mining village who leads a Chinese language course for kids. She has organized thematic festivals here before, but this is the largest event so far, Tsentovskaya told BTA.
