Outgoing Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maria Gabriel commented to journalists Friday on the procedures for appointing a caretaker cabinet. She argued that transparency and clarity about the procedures, competences and deadlines are very important.
Currently, President Rumen Radev is holding a series of meetings with potential caretaker Prime Ministers, after the constitutional procedure to form a regular government within the current National Assembly was exhausted following the return of an unfulfilled third exploratory mandate.
Gabriel noted that a deadline is to the State's advantage, but this does not mean that things should be rushed at the expense of clarity in terms of next steps.
In response to the question if she would accept a minister position in the caretaker cabinet, Gabriel stated that she would serve until the last day of the outgoing government's term.
Regarding the upcoming snap elections, she stated that the Foreign Ministry, within its competences, will fulfill its tasks. "We must first receive an assignment in order to complete it," she stated.
Gabriel participated in the conference "20 Years Bulgaria in NATO: Because We Are Stronger Together". The event is part of the National Programme of initiatives to mark the 20th anniversary of Bulgaria's accession to NATO.
