The Council of Ministers on Wednesday adopted a decree to improve the interdepartmental coordination in the field of human rights through a national coordination, implemented by a national coordination mechanism.
It establishes a council to ensure the implementation of the National Coordination Mechanism for Human Rights and clearly allocates the obligations of the state institutions, in accordance with their constitutional and statutory powers, to the international human rights treaties to which Bulgaria is a party.
The National Coordination Mechanism is chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and includes national human rights institutions, executive authorities as well as non-governmental organizations. It will monitor the improvement, protection and promotion of human rights in Bulgaria.
