The presidential elections in Russia held in the last three days are yet another proof of the growing and systematic pressure against opposition politicians, NGOs, independent media and critics of the Kremlin regime, the outgoing cabinet said in a Facebook post.

Violations of the civil and political freedoms of Russian citizens continue and are expanding. Russian voters have been deprived of the right to make an informed choice.

The refusal to invite observers from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) is yet another proof that the Kremlin regime is committing violations of its commitments in the field of European security and the protection of human rights as an integral part of it.

The holding of the so-called presidential elections in the illegally occupied territories of Ukraine is further proof of a flagrant violation of international law. Bulgaria does not recognize the results of the elections held in the illegally occupied territories of Ukraine.

Bulgaria and the Bulgarian citizens remain on the side of democracy, the rule of law and the protection of human rights, the outgoing cabinet wrote. In this context, Bulgaria continues its unwavering support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said that Bulgaria strongly condemns the illegal elections for the presidency of the Russian Federation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, in Transnistria, South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
