A group of 8 illegal migrants has been detained in Silistra (northeastern Bulgaria), the Appellate Prosecutor's Office in Varna said on Tuesday. Fast-track proceedings have been imitated and charges have been brought against the detainees.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against one of the men for helping foreigners to cross into Bulgaria illegally using a motor vehicle.

The group of migrants included Syrians and Iraqi Kurds. The detainees are part of a larger group of illegal migrants that also includes minors. They have been transported and placed in a specialized accommodation centre.

An investigation into the case is ongoing, the Prosecutor's Office added.
