Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mariya Gabriel met with Czech Ambassador to Bulgaria Lukas Kaucky to discuss bilateral cooperation in culture, tourism, education, innovation and science, Bulgaria's chief diplomat said in a Facebook post on Monday.

The two talked about the development of the world's most advanced laser-based research infrastructure run by the European consortium ELI ERIC, in which Bulgaria holds observer status.

Gabriel thanked for Prague's support for Sofia's expected accession to the Schengen border-free area and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. She thanked the ambassador for his personal contribution to enhancing Czechia's partnership with Bulgaria.

Schengen enlargement was among the goals of the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2022.
