Launching the 21st Bulgarian Christmas fundraising campaign in Burgas on Monday, President Rumen Radev said that the Bulgarian Christmas is not just a fundraising campaign, but it is much more than that, as it gives people the belief that they live in a civilized society based on human values. The initiative is held under the auspices of the Head of State. This year’s event is focused on helping kids with rare genetic disorders under the motto "Give Hope to a Child in Need".
This year's campaign was launched at the multi-profile hospital for active treatment in Burgas. The event was attended by Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov, the hospital’s management, scientific leaders, medics, children and parents.
"This year, Bulgarian Christmas has a record budget of over BGN 3,500,000. Five hundred and eighty-six children received valuable help for diagnosis and treatment, expensive medicines, and subsequent rehabilitation. Twenty-six medical institutions across the country received modern high-tech equipment," Radev said.
He expressed gratitude to the management of the hospital in Burgas and Burgas Municipality for their initiative to create a children's hospital. "I expect the state to support this noble initiative, because I am convinced that the first children's hospital in Bulgaria will actually be built right here in Burgas," Radev noted.
