Patent Office President Prof. Vladia Borisova and Deputy President Iveta Istiliyanova were among the participants in the international conference "Women in Tradition, Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship", which took place in Tirana on October 18-19, the Patent Office announced on Friday.

Prof. Borisova, at the invitation of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), was a speaker in the session "Women in Intellectual Property and Innovation - Challenges and Future" at the conference. The forum was organized by WIPO, the European Patent Office, in partnership with the General Directorate of Industrial Property of Albania, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Albanian Patent Office. The President of the Patent Office presented some of the best practices and successful initiatives, expressing the opinion that women contribute to innovation not only with their intellect and creativity, but also with their special insight in creating innovative solutions with a practical focus to facilitate everyday life.

"We support women to gain more awareness, knowledge and experience of the IP system. Practice shows that education and additional professional qualifications are vital. The more innovation-oriented an economy is, the stronger the link between research and industry, the more successful the role of women in intellectual property and innovation," said Prof. Borisova. She added that this year 20% of the patent applications received by the Bulgarian Patent Office are from women inventors and co-inventors.
