Emerging from Wednesday's meeting of the Council of Ministers, Environment and Water Minister Julian Popov told a news briefing that the Cabinet has adopted a report on the September flooding in Tsarevo.

"This report was drawn up on the order of the Prime Minister by an interdepartamental commission, headed by Deputy Minister Petar Dimtrov. Such reports take six months to prepared. This report was done in two weeks."

Popov said that under Wednesday’s decision the financial motivation will be done in two weeks. This includes a financial evaluation of the damages and the motives should be clear, detailed and justified. Next week we’ll have a meeting of all involved institutions in order to go ahead quicker,” he said.

Deputy Minister Petar Dimitrov, who headed the interdepartamental commission, outlined some of the findings.

Dimitrov said that damages total BGN 38 million according to preliminary data.

„We concluded that the causes for the disaster are related to the intense rainfall in combination with the geography of the region," he said. Another important reason is the infrastructure. Local bridges are not built for the modern weather conditions. Checks didn't establish any illegal logging," he said.
