Law enforcers arrested a suspected participant in a scheme for buying votes in Sofia, the Interior Ministry said on Friday.

The operation for countering crimes against the political rights of citizens was carried out on Thursday in Sofia by officers of the Sofia economic police. A 53-year-old man was detained in the course of the operation. The police seized lists of people with the money they have received, a large amount of money, an illegal gun with an erased serial number, rounds and an air gun.

The man has been detained for 24 hours and pretrial proceedings have been launched.
