At its regular sitting on Wednesday, the Council of Ministers approved a draft joint statement between Bulgaria and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on stronger cooperation in countering and preventing organized crime in the field of immigration. The document, proposed by the UK, envisages the establishment of a joint working group tasked with determining the ways to deepen the bilateral cooperation between the competent bodies and with assessing the implemented activities.

The working group will be chaired by one chairperson from Bulgaria and the UK each. It will meet once every three months with the participation of representatives of all competent institutions from both countries.

The document will be signed by Bulgarian Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov and British Minister of State for Immigration Robert Jenrick within Jenrick's visit to Bulgaria on October 16 and 17, 2023.

The joint statement is not legally binding and is not subject to ratification by the National Assembly, the Government Information Service said.
