In a statement on Monday MP Delyan Peevski of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) urged Finance Minister Assen Vassilev to honour the agreements reached in the National Assembly and reconsider his interaction with Parliament.

Peevski reacted to statements by Vassilev at the Council of Ministers and in a televised interview that the VAT rate for the restaurant business should be changed back to 20% from the current 9%.

Peevski recalls that the MRF won’t back an increase of the VAT rate and that the proposal will likely not get the necessary support by MPs. The majority is willing to keep the 9% VAT rate for restaurants parallel to the implementation of the measures intended to formalize the sector.
