Bulgarian European Commissioner Iliana Ivanova congratulated Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova on promoting the city as the capital of sports, reported Sofia Municipality.

"I support Sofia for the European Capital of Sports initiative and for its selection as the World Capital of Sports in 2024," said Bulgarian European Commissioner Iliana Ivanova at a meeting with Fandakova. The conversation was also attended by Gian Francesco Lupatelli, President of ACES EUROPE, Andrey Kovachev, member of the European Parliament, Anatoli Iliev, head of the Sofia European Capital of Sports Foundation.

The Sofia Mayor said that dozens of outdoor sports facilities, sports fields and fitness areas have been built in Sofia in recent years, and new ones have been built in nearly 20 schools that did not have gyms.

ACES EUROPE President Lupatelli said that Sofia has done a lot in recent years and attracted thousands of citizens to actively engage in sports activities. He expressed his admiration for the work of Mayor Fandakova as a leader and manager and invited her to be the honorary president of ACES EUROPE for the next five years.
