A total of 65 parties and nine coalitions have applied with the Central Election Commission (CEC) for registration for the October 29 local elections, the CEC told BTA on Wednesday. The application submission deadline expired on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

The CEC is required to send to the municipal election commissions (MECs) a list of the parties and coalitions registered for the elections by September 14. The deadline for registration of political formations with the MECs is September 18. If they are not registered with the CEC as parties and coalitions, the formations cannot register for the local elections with an MEC.

Initiative committees can register independent candidates for municipal councillors, mayors of municipalities, mayors of districts and mayors of town halls at an MEC to run in the local elections until September 18 at 5 p.m. An initiative committees can nominate only one independent candidate with the respective MEC.
