The Targovishte District Court detained three Dutch nationals, M.B. (aged 46), J.S. (aged 48) and K.F. (aged 57), for participating in an organized criminal group for the purpose of production, processing, acquisition, possession and distribution of narcotic substances, Targovishte District Court spokesperson Desislava Zdravkova said  on Tuesday.

In an outbuilding on the land of the Omurtag village of Vrani kon, the three acted in complicity, producing and processing a benzyl methyl ketone, most frequently used as a precursor for the manufacture of amphetamine, without a proper permit under the Narcotic Substances and Precursors Control Act. They also kept equipment and materials for drug production.

The court ordered all three to remain in custody, taking into account that the purpose of the measure is to ensure the presence of the accused during the investigation and there is a real danger that they will both commit a crime and abscond. The practice is also in line with the European Court of Human Rights, according to which the protection of the public interest prevails over the right to personal freedom.

The three subjects of the Kingdom of the Netherlands were detained on Saturday, August 19, when the drug laboratory was opened in the village of Vrani kon.
The decisions of the Targovishte District Court are subject to appeal and protest before the Appellate Court in Varna.
