Protesters, who organized on social media, gathered in front of the Russian Embassy in Sofia on Friday evening.

The peaceful action, initiated by the Mati Ukraina Association of Ukrainian Organizations in Bulgaria, was prompted by the breach of the Kakhovka Dam, for which the demonstrators blame Russia and argue that the June 6 blast has resulted in an environmental disaster and immensely endangers the civilian population of Ukraine.

"Black Sea pollution is a matter of days. Mines, shells and corpses: this is genocide not only against the Ukrainian people but against us all," protesters said.

The Bulgarian and Ukrainian citizens assembled in front of the Russian diplomatic mission warned that the disaster after the dam's collapse is a war crime and is destroying Ukraine's infrastructure and threatens the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

The protesters chanted "Russia Is Terrorist" and "Glory to Ukraine" and waived Ukrainian and Bulgarian flags.

The demonstrators arranged toys and splashed water on them to show the predicament of peaceful Ukrainians after the dam's destruction.

Police presence in the area was beefed up, and traffic in the street were the Embassy is located was blocked.
