On this date in Bulgarian history:

1876: A detachment put together by freedom fighter Hristo Botev wages a battle at Lyutibrod, where more than 10 of its members die. Botev himself is killed the previous day.

1957: Wrestler Petko Sirakov wins Bulgaria's first gold medal at the World Freestyle Wrestling Championship in Istanbul, Turkiye.

1964: Monument to Hristo Botev is unveiled in Vratsa (Northwestern Bulgaria).

1974: Bulgaria establishes diplomatic relations with Guinea-Bissau.

1997: First strike in a commercial media, 168 Chasa Press Group, with demands for employment agreements and higher wages.

1999: MIG-21 warplane crashes near Dragomir, Southern Bulgaria. Captain Georgi Bogdanov Rusev and First Lieutenant Sasho Dimitrov Nikolov are killed in the crash.

2003: The Bulgarian National Bank introduces the Real-time Interbank Gross Settlement (RINGS).
