Montenegrin police have arrested two Bulgarian citizens on suspicion of attempted murder in the capital Podgorica on Tuesday, MINA News Agency reported on Thursday. The attackers tried to leave the country shortly after the crime was committed.

On Tuesday morning, a report of a physical altercation between several individuals was reported to police. А man was injured and sent to hospital where multiple fractures were found.

"Based on a number of measures and activities, police officers have learned that two masked unknown persons attacked the wounded man, striking him with crowbars in the head and body area," the Montenegrin police statement said.

A prosecutor from the Higher State Prosecution Office in Podgorica was briefed on the case and qualified it as a crime of attempted murder.

"With subsequent activities on the ground, the police managed in a very short time to identify the two persons suspected of having committed the crime - Bulgarian citizens I.I.E. (42 years old) and D.Y.E. (43 years old)," the police statement added.

It is added that the suspects attempted to leave Montenegro through the Kula border crossing the same day. However, they were handed over to the competent authorities and imprisoned.
