Montenegro’s Supreme State Prosecutor Milorad Markovic and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Chief Prosecutor Milanko Kajganic signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation to assist witnesses and victims during criminal proceedings on war crimes, the MINA news agency reported on November 6.

According to a press release from the Montenegrin prosecution service, the memorandum, signed in Sarajevo, is aimed to ensure more expeditious and effective cooperation in war crime cases. The sides agreed to arrange for witnesses to give evidence and for victims and witnesses to take part in proceedings on war crimes when the proceedings are taking place in Montenegro or Bosnia and Herzegovina and the victims or witnesses reside or stay in another country.

Markovic and Kajganic welcomed a decision by the European Court of Human Rights to declare evidence obtained through encryption applications as legal and admissible. They described it as an important step forward in the fight against organized international crime in the region and in strengthening the rule of law in Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina, the press release said.
