The 23rd edition of the Peace in the Balkans International Folklore Festival is set to commence in Dupnitsa on Wednesday, said the Dupnitsa Municipality. The festival, a collaboration between the Dupnitsa and Blagoevgrad municipalities, will feature performances from ensembles from a diverse range of countries: Bulgaria, Morocco, Albania, Georgia, Serbia, Greece, Poland, North Macedonia, and Kosovo.
The festival will begin with a procession featuring both host and visiting troupes, followed by a hoisting of the festival banner. An all-ensemble concert is also on the agenda. The festival is scheduled to continue over the next two days, with performances planned in both Dupnitsa and Blagoevgrad, taking place at Svoboda and Macedonia squares.
The local council told BTA that the festival is devoid of any competitive element and will showcase participants performing traditional dances, each adorned in the ethnic attire of their respective communities. The diverse line-up includes Bulgarian, Armenian, Jewish, Karakachan, and Vlach groups.
The festival is scheduled to conclude at Svoboda Square in Dupnitsa on June 1.
