Up to 30 Romanian planes are expected to land at Balchik Airport on April 13 to mark the entry of Bulgaria and Romania into the Schengen area by air and water on March 31, said the Albena seaside resort on Thursday.

The event will be organized jointly by the managements of the Balchik Airport and Tuzla Airport in Romania, and is aimed at pilots of small planes, the resort added. All services provided by Balchik Airport will be free of charge for pilots from Bulgaria and Romania, and the same will apply to services at Tuzla Airport on April 27. The aim is to demonstrate the simplified procedure for accepting international flights, as well as to strengthen relations between representatives of the aviation community from the two countries.

The programme of the event will include an official part and a celebration for all participants, as well as transfer and accommodation in the holiday resort of Albena for an additional fee for those who wish to spend the night on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. The Albena resort is popular among pilots for its themed five-star Amelia Hotel, dedicated to Amelia Earhart, the first female pilot to cross the Atlantic Ocean.
