The rule of law, justice, and strong democratic institutions form the basis of every free and sustainable society, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said on the Council of Ministers’ official Facebook page on Wednesday, marking Constitution Day. Zhelyazkov also extended greetings to legal professionals in Bulgaria on their professional holiday.

On April 16, the country commemorates the adoption of the Tarnovo (present-day Veliko Tarnovo) Constitution, considered the first step toward modern Bulgarian statehood. Zhelyazkov paid tribute to the wisdom and foresight of those who established the foundations of parliamentary democracy. He stressed that law is more than a set of rules—it is a guarantor of human dignity, freedom, and equality.

Zhelyazkov said his administration is working to build an effective, transparent, and fair judicial system, focusing on accelerating judicial proceedings, expanding digital access to justice, implementing stricter measures against domestic violence and parental alienation, and promoting judicial mediation for faster and fairer dispute resolution.
