The Sofia Opera opened the opera season in Salerno, Italy on April 11 with a performance of the second part of Richard Wagner's tetralogy Der Ring des Nibelungen - Die Walkure. This is also the first Wagner opera to be presented on the stage of the theatre, which opened in 1872 with Giuseppe Verdi's Rigoletto, the Sofia Opera said. There will be a second performance on April 13.
“The production of [Sofia Opera Director] Plamen Kartaloff, who is already well known to the audience in Salerno for his productions of [Verdi's] Aida and [Giacomo Puccini's] La boheme, aroused a huge interest of the audience and the tickets for both performances were sold out days before the performances”, the Sofia Opera added.
The premiere of Die Walkure opens a new path for cooperation between the Sofia Opera and the Giuseppe Verdi Theatre, the Bulgarian team said. They recalled that the same production won the hearts of the audience during its visit to the historic city of Fussen in Germany and in Skopje, North Macedonia, last year. The new season of the Croatian National Opera in Zagreb will also open with Die Walkure.
