site.btaGERB Leader Borissov Says Motion of No Confidence to Be “a Talking Shop”

GERB leader Boyko Borissov commented in Parliament on the newly submitted motion of no confidence against the Cabinet of Rosen Zhelyazkov over corruption by the parliamentary group of Morality, Unity, Honour (MECh). Borissov said that a motion of no confidence against the government on the topic of corruption “will be a talking shop”. Borissov noted that these activities waste parliamentary time, and that during the debate, political parties will attack one another “everyone against the others”. “The government was elected two months ago and if there’s a corruption scandal, we will discuss it,” GERB leader Borisov said.

He called on Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) to wait until the acceptance of Bulgaria into the eurozone, to introduce a no-confidence vote against the cabinet. According to Borissov their statements “will scare Brussels” and the eurozone convergence report will be unsatisfactory, which will delay Bulgaria’s accession. “Wait until we become a member and then do whatever you want. For once, let’s send a signal of stability from Bulgaria, of predictability, this will discipline us and then everything in the state will become transparent,” Borissov told CC-DB.

Earlier today, Nikolay Denkov from CC-DB said that once Bulgaria has a date to join the eurozone and this becomes inevitable, because this is a national priority, then they will initiate a no-confidence vote and look for support from all parties.

In connection with the contraband case in Plovdiv and the activities of the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime, Borissov said that “everyone there must be crushed, everyone should be fired, to the last person, everyone at the Interior Ministry, Customs, Revenue Agency, everyone that [former Minister of Finance] Assen Vassilev appointed in the past four years should be fired.” He added that Interior Minister Daniel Mitov will not hide, he will come to the hearing in Parliament together with the Interior Ministry Secretary General and police officers. Borissov added that “[President Rumen Radev's legal affairs adviser] Plamen Uzunov appointed everyone in Plovdiv.”
