Bulgaria's athletes won three world titles and one silver medal in the first days of the 5th Military World Winter Games, held in Switzerlands' Lucerne from March 23 to 30, the Defence Ministry reported Thursday. Stanimir Belomazhev and Antoniya Grigorova from the Ministry's Elite Sports Centre won the medals.
Belomazhev, who is a two-time world champion in ski orienteering, snagged the gold in the middle distance and sprint races. In 2017, he won the silver in the same races of the Military World Winter Games.
In ski orienteering for women, Grigorova won the silver medal in the middle distance and the gold medal in the sprint race. In 2017, she snagged the bronze in the middle distance race.
Participating in the 5th Military World Winter Games are more than 1,400 military sportspersons from 43 countries, competing in ten winter disciplines. The Bulgarian delegation comprises 29 participants, of whom 18 athletes competing in five disciplines: Alpine skiing, biathlon, ski orienteering, ski running, and cross-country skiing.
