Parliament Elects Plamen Mladenovski as Chairman of Energy and Water Regulatory Commission

Parliament on Wednesday elected Plamen Mladenovski as chairman of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) with 138 votes in favour, 60 against and 15 abstentions,. He is nominated by GERB-UDF and will replace Ivan Ivanov.

The second candidate Meglena Russenova, nominated by the parliamentary group of Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria, was backed by 29 MPs, 168 were against, and 16 abstained.

The newly-elected chair of the regulator has a degree in financial management. Since 2013 he has worked at the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission. Since 2016 he has served as head of the electricity and thermal energy directorate at the Commission.

Parliament also appointed two members of the EWRC.

Tasko Ermenkov, nominated by the parliamentary group of BSP-United Left, was supported by 121 MPs, 78 were against, 12 abstained.

Alexandra Bogoslovska, nominated by the parliamentary group of There Is Such a Nation, received 125 votes in favour, 73 against, 13 MPs abstained.

The nomination of Meglena Russenova (Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria) for member of the regulator received 29 votes in favour, 162 votes were against and 20 abstained.

Before the start of the debate, Remzi Osman, nominated by DRF-MRF,. withdrew from the race.

After the election, the new chairperson and the two newly elected members of the regulator took the oath of office before the National Assembly.
