A ceremonial fireworks and military tribute ceremony was held at National Assembly Square in Sofia on Monday to commemorate Bulgaria’s National Day.
The event started with President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces Rumen Radev inspecting the Bulgarian Army's guard of honour. He received the ceremonial report from Brigadier General Teodor Todorov, the commander of the Communication and Cyber Defence Command, and congratulated the guard on the occasion of March 3.
In his address, President Radev described March 3 as a lasting symbol of generations of Bulgarians’ aspirations for a free, united, and independent Bulgaria.
The ceremony featured historic military banners, revered as symbols of Bulgaria’s warrior traditions, including the Samara Banner, the standards of the 23rd Shipka Infantry Regiment, 15th Lom Infantry Regiment, 13th Rila Infantry Regiment, 25th Dragoman Infantry Regiment, 30th Sheynovo Infantry Regiment, 6th Tarnovo Infantry Regiment, and 24th Black Sea Infantry Regiment.
At the close of the ceremony, attendees knelt in remembrance of those who gave their lives for Bulgaria’s freedom, followed by the national anthem.
Among those attending the military tribute were National Assembly Speaker Nataliya Kiselova, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, Vice President Iliana Iotova, Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil, Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev, ministers, MPs, diplomats, military officials, judicial representatives, and citizens.
Bulgaria’s National Day is being marked with celebrations across the country. Later in the evening, President Radev will host the traditional official reception at the Central Military Club in Sofia.
