site.btaTISP Wait for Final Decision which "Can Re-allocate Parliamentary Seats"
MP Stanislav Balabanov said on Thursday that his parliamentary group, There Is Such a People (TISP), will wait for the final decision of the Constitutional Court and the Central Election Commission (CEC), which can re-allocate the seats in the National Assembly. Balabanov, who is Deputy Floor Leader of the TISP, said he has no information whether another political force will enter the National Assembly after the results of last October's early parliamentary elections are recalculated.
On Monday, the Constitutional Court required the CEC to recalculate the election results following complaints challenging the official figures. Five complaints (one of them by the TISP) were lodged originally, and the Constitutional Court merged them into one.
Balabanov commented: "We will wait until the institutions finish their work. I do not think that the weight of the majority in the Assembly will change. From what I gather, the final decisions will be made around the middle of March."
Asked about the possibility of the government being left with the support of fewer than 121 MPs in the 240-seat legislature, he said he cannot predict the future size of the parliamentary majority. He argued that even if there was another group in addition to those forming the National Assembly, the majority could not shrink below 121 members and would perhaps be exactly 121 members. He said the current majority, which includes the TISP, "is made up of parties with radically different ideologies pursuing the same goal: to bring normality to Bulgarian society, and above all, to adopt and implement a state budget, which is awaited by every Bulgarian citizen."
