Foreign direct investment in Bulgaria increased by almost EUR 1.498 billion for the whole of 2024, the Bulgarian National Bank said on Tuesday. In 2023, the growth of these investments was EUR 3.284 billion.

The largest net positive flows of direct investment into this country in 2024 were from Austria (EUR 426.7 million), Greece (EUR 295.1M) and Italy (EUR 245.9M), while the largest net negative flows were to Luxembourg (EUR 436.7M) and the US (EUR 378.9M). 

Foreign direct investment in December of 2024 alone (accounted for in accordance with the principle of the original direction of investment), according to preliminary data, increased by EUR 78.7M, with a decrease of EUR 114.1M for December 2023, the release said.
