The rising cost of living was identified as Turkiye's number one problem in 2024 by nearly one in three respondents, and the share of people who said they were happy was lower than in 2023, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute quoted by Haberturk.
When the most important problem in 2024 was examined, the cost of living took the lead with 29.2%, followed by education (15.7%) and poverty (14.0%).
The life satisfaction survey found that 49.6% of respondents aged 18 or over said they were happy in 2024, 3.1 percentage points down from 52.7% in 2023. While the proportion of men who said they were happy decreased from 50.3% in 2023 to 46.9% in 2024, the percentage of women decreased from 55.1% in 2023 to 52.3% in 2024.
When happiness levels were examined by age groups, the 25-34 age group was the only one with an increase in life satisfaction to 51.0% in 2024 from 50.7% in 2023.
The survey also found that 81.7% of employed people were satisfied with their pay in 2024, while satisfaction among self-employed respondents was 77.7%.
The 2024 life satisfaction survey was carried out on November 1-30.
