Sofia to Host 3rd Sava Dimitrov International Clarinet Competition

Sofia will host the Sava Dimitrov International Clarinet Competition for the third time. The event will take place from January 17 to 21, said the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music, which organizes the competition together with the Prof. Sava Dimitrov Foundation.

The competition aims to encourage young talents by giving them a stage for performance and cultural exchange. The participants will be assessed by an international jury with world-renown clarinet players Arkadiusz Adamski (Poland), Fabio Di Càsola (Switzerland), Gabor Varga (Hungary), Nicolas Baldeyrou (France), Shirley Brill (Israel/Germany), Vanguel Tangarov (Bulgaria/USA), and Yuan Yuan (China).

The 3rd Sava Dimitrov International Clarinet Competition will be unveiled with a solemn ceremony and a concert of the jury members on January 17. The programme features works by Norbert Burgmüller, Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, Donato Lovreglio, Francis Poulenc, Jean Françaix, and  Leonard Bernstein.

A new addition to the competition's programme are master classes led by renown musicians and pedagogues Veljko Klenkovski (Serbia), Emil Visenesku (Romania), and Tadej Kenig (Slovenia). The classes are open to everyone interested with an advance registration for participation. The three lecturers will give a concert in the hall of the National Academy of Music.

On January 21, the laureates will perform as soloist of the Academic Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Konstantin Ilievski in the Academy's hall.

Entry to all stages of the competition, concerts of the jury, lecturers and laureates are with free entry. The event will be broadcast live online.

The competition is organized with the assistance of the Ministries of Culture and of Education and Science, Sofia Municipality, Buffet Crampon Group, Vandoren, MET Energy Bulgaria, Alliance Print, and with the media partnership of the Bulgarian News Agency, Bulgarian National Television, and Bulgarian National Radio.
