August 25 (BTA) - The index of wholesale food prices dropped to 1.348 points this past week, the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Wholesale Markets said on Sunday.

The index's baseline of 1 point was established in 2005. In August 2018, the index dropped to 1.311 points.

The only vegetables which appreciated were hothouse tomatoes, by 17.1 per cent to 1.60 leva/kg, and green peppers by 5.5 per cent to 1.15 leva/kg. Drops in prices were registered for hothouse cucumbers by 25.0 per cent to 1.29 leva/kg, potatoes by 3.3 per cent to 0.58 leva/kg, carrots by 4.2 per cent to 0.68 leva/kg, cabbage by 2.1 per cent to 0.47 leva/kg, zucchini by 9.2 per cent to 0.59 leva/kg, and red peppers by 5.3 per cent to 1.44 leva/kg.

Apples lost 2.9 per cent to 1.02 leva/kg. Lemons were selling at 2.76 leva/kg. Peaches slid 4.1 per cent to 1.16 leva/kg. Water melons traded at 0.42 leva/kg and melons were selling at 0.83 leva/kg.

The wholesale price of white brined cheese from cow's milk was 6.20 leva/kg. Vitosha yellow kashkaval cheese sold at 10.60 leva/kg. Sunflower oil traded at 1.99 leva/litre. Minced meat gained 1.6 per cent to 5.14 leva/kg. Butter from cow's milk was selling at 2.28 leva per 125-gram pack. Frozen chicken dropped by 0.5 per cent to 4.11 leva/kg at the end of the week. Sugar traded at 1.25 leva/kg. Grade 500 flour appreciated by 2.0 per cent to 1.01 leva/kg. Rice slid by 0.5 per cent to 1.96 leva/kg. IG/DD
