site.btaPlovdiv's Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts Marks 60th Anniversary
The Prof. Asen Diamandiev Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts of Plovdiv Friday marked its 60th anniversary with a concert titled "Tradition and Modernity in the Heart of Plovdiv". More than 200 performers took the stage of the Drama Theatre. The performance began with the iconic composition We Are, featuring music by classical, pop and jazz composers arranged by the Academy's Rector, Assoc. Prof. Jean Pehlivanov.
Attending were President Rumen Radev, his wife Desislava Radeva, Plovdiv Mayor Kostadin Dimitrov, Regional Governor Hristina Yancheva, MPs, representatives of local and central government, university rectors, public figures and many members of the public.
President Radev presented a St. St. Cyril and Methodius plaquette to the Academy for its key role and great achievements in the training of generations of artists, as well as for its high academic standards and contribution to the contemporary image of higher education in Bulgaria.
The Rector said this high distinction was a sign that the hard work and effort put in by the faculty and the leadership had not gone unnoticed.
President Radev said that in 60 years, the Academy had not only educated many bright talents, but it had made a significant contribution to shaping the image of contemporary Bulgarian music, dance and fine arts. Numerous talented artists have shown what they learned in the Academy on leading stages in Bulgaria and abroad.
"All of you, faculty and students, contribute to the progress of Plovdiv because the city's industrial boom necessarily involves culture," Radev said, adding that the Academy fosters great values, "which give a horizon to ambition and build character in the name of a common goal".
