In October 2024, new EU car registrations reversed their decline, recording a modest 1.1% increase, show figures of the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) published on Thursday. Year-on-year, Bulgaria also saw a increase in new car registrations with 3,880 new cars registered in October 2024, compared to 3,766 units in the same month last year.

Spain led the way with a robust 7.2% growth, while Germany rebounded with a 6% increase following three months of decline, ACEA said. Decreases were recorded in both of the other two EU major markets: France (-11.1%) and Italy (-9.1%).

In Bulgaria, petrol car registrations accounted for 71.6% of the domestic car market in October, down from 77.6% in October 2023. New diesel cars accounted for 17.6% of the market in Bulgaria, a rise from 12.9% in October 2023. The market share of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in Bulgaria in September 2024 stood at 4.5%. Share of hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) was 2.4% and new registrations of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) represented 1.1% of the market.
