The Council of Ministers decreed additional expenditure in the budget of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for 2024 in the amount of BGN 9,001,606, which the Ministry has paid from its budget in connection with the Bulgaria's commitments and participation in the European Peace Facility and the country's representation in the Committee of the Facility.

The European Peace Facility was established in 2021 as an extra-budgetary EU fund to finance all initiatives within the framework of the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) of the Union which have military or defence implications.

In October 2021, the government designated the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as responsible institutions for ensuring the payment of the annual national contribution to the budget of the European Peace Facility.
