Тhe Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) has detected a new outbreak of sheep pox in Haskovo (South Bulgaria), the BFSA said on Tuesday. The disease has spread on a farm with 180 sheep.
A three-kilometre protection zone has been established around the outbreak, covering the town of Haskovo. A 10-kilometre surveillance zone around the outbreak covering eleven villages in the Municipality has also been marked.
In line with the rules of EU and national legislation, the Agency has taken measures to control and eradicate the disease through humane killing and disposal of all infected and contact small ruminants on the farm. The disease does not pose a risk to humans, but its spread causes significant economic damage, the BFSA said.
