A special operation to counter the production and distribution of drugs on the territory of Dobrich region (Northeast Bulgaria), ordered by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior, led to the discovery of a huge marijuana-growing greenhouse, the Interior Ministry reported Saturday.

The facility spans an area of close to a hectare and the cannabis plants planted range from 2 m to 3.5 m in height; over 250 kg of finished "produce" in the process of drying were seized.

Officers the Dobrich police and their colleagues from the nearby towns of Balchik and Kavarna took part in the operation. In the course of their work, following "hot leads", the police carried out a check on the outskirts of the village of Seltse. In a farm property there they discovered a greenhouse built on an area of 0.9 hectares with cannabis plants reaching 2 m to 3.5 meters in height. They also found two high-tech drying facilities.

Thanks to the professional and timely police actions, the distribution of over 250 kg of finished "product" was prevented and seized. Two persons have been arrested. The Dobrich District Prosecutor's Office is yet to specify the charges.

Procedural and investigative actions continue on the scene.
