Bulgaria’s caretaker Foreign Minister Ivan Kondov conferred with newly appointed British Ambassador to Bulgaria Nathaniel Copsey on Friday, the Foreign Ministry said in a press release.

The two sides highlighted the excellent relations between Bulgaria and the United Kingdom and discussed opportunities for deepening them both on a bilateral basis and through multilateral formats. The importance of the joint declaration on strategic partnership between Bulgaria and the UK of October 2023 was also highlighted, as well as the initiative of the government of British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer to reset the UK's relations with the EU.

Moreover, the meeting between Kondov and Copsey discussed prospects for the development of high-level bilateral political dialogue.

Kondov underscored Bulgaria's appreciation for the consistent British support for Bulgaria's accession to the OECD and made a reference to the good prerequisites for deepening cooperation between Bulgaria and the UK in all areas of mutual interest, based on shared values, similarities in foreign policy priorities and established good bilateral contacts.

The fruitful cooperation on countering disinformation and hybrid threats was noted, as well as the good cooperation in the fight against illegal migration.

Issues on the European and international agenda were also discussed, including Russia's war in Ukraine, security in the Black Sea and the Western Balkans regions.
