Passengers at Sarajevo Airport were evacuated over a bomb alert, said the Klix.ba portal of Bosnia and Hercegovina.

The authorities are searching for a bomb and the check is expected to take hours.

"After receiving an anonymous tip-off about explosive devices planted on the territory of Sarajevo International Airport, the competent services immediately took all necessary measures in accordance with the security protocols in force. A detailed inspection is being carried out. In cooperation with the competent security services, the full safety of all passengers and staff at the airport has been ensured. Sarajevo International Airport will continue to monitor the situation and we will communicate all further information in due course," the airport said quoted by Klix.

Bomb hoaxes were also received Friday at several Sarajevo schools and they were evacuated as well.

In the last few weeks, Sarajevo received a large number of bomb hoaxes for various buildings, Radio Sarajevo recalls. Due to bomb threats, 8 people have been taken into custody so far, but new hoaxes continue to arrive every day.
