The police in Kostinbrod and Pirdop have uncovered two greenhouses for the cultivation of cannabis, the Sofia Directorate of Interior said in a press release on Tuesday.
The investigation of one of the cases began at the start of a special operation conducted in Sofia Region on Monday. Kostinbrod police arrested a repeat offender from Sofia who was caught red-handed carrying cannabis stems near the village of Gradets.
In a tent designed for drying cannabis, police found cannabis stems, along with fertilizers and various containers. Further investigation revealed that another man from Sofia was also involved in the illegal activity.
A search of the second suspect's address uncovered a greenhouse equipped with lamps for growing cannabis. Police seized pots of cannabis plants, envelopes containing green substance and some 90 grams of dried leafy substance, a digital scale, fans, air ducts, lamps, and potting soil. The 39-year-old man was detained for 24 hours, and pre-trial proceedings have been initiated, the Sofia Directorate of Interior’s press centre said.
Nearly 6 kg of dried cannabis were seized near Pirdop on Monday. In a property in the village of Chelopech, police found dozens of drying cannabis plants, along with envelopes and jars containing finished products. Two digital scales were also seized, according to the press centre.
The property's occupant has been identified, and steps have been taken to locate him. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated.
A total of 11 people were detained during a specialized police operation in Sofia Region Monday, the Sofia Directorate of Interior said.
