site.btaDimitrov Wins against Djokovic in Exhibition Tennis Match in Sofia
The best Bulgarian tennis player Grigor Dimitrov defeated the Olympic singles champion Novak Djokovic in an exhibition match organized by the Grigor Dimitrov Foundation in Sofia on Tuesday. The Bulgarian athlete won the match 6-4, 2-6, 10-6.
More than 10,000 fans filled Arena 8888 Sofia to capacity after tickets for the match sold out in minutes. While the two athletes offered a quality match with plenty of spectacular plays, the audience also enjoyed a few moments of levity, including one where the ball kids were given the rackets to play on Dimitrov and Djokovic's behalf.
After the match, an emotional Dimitrov addressed the audience: "I am filled with happiness. I want to thank you. I am always very excited when I play in front of you."
Djokovic shared that it was an honour and a pleasure to support Dimitrov's foundation. The legendary Serb called Dimitrov a brother and a friend.
Many famous athletes watched the event live, among whom Dimitrov's coach Daniel Vallverdu, sisters and former professional tennis players Manuela Maleeva, Katerina Maleeva and Magdalena Maleeva, President of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee Stefka Kostadinova, former professional footballer Dimitar Berbatov.
Dimitrov will compete for Team Europe in the Laver Cup at the end of the week.
