site.btaProf Gonenc Says Work on Projects in Edirne, Balkan Regions Started in 2005
Prof Emel Gonenc from the Association for Promoting Edirne and Tourism of Edirne (ЕТТDER), said work on many projects, both in Edirne and in the Balkan regions, had been underway since 2005. She participated in the closing conference of BTA's Europe in the Balkans: A Common Future project on Saturday. The event was held in the Bulgarian Albena resort and was opened by BTA Director General Kiril Valchev.
"We believe multi-destination travel is important," Gonenc said. "In all projects, we try to incorporate the idea of sustainability, something that participants at today's conference have talked about." Edirne is partnering with the south-central Bulgarian town of Harmanli, she said.
The Europe in the Balkans: A Common Future project is implemented by BTA with the European Commission's support. It promotes the EU's cohesion policies. As part of this project, BTA has organized 36 conferences, including six cross-border conferences, six major regional conferences and 22 local conferences.
