site.btaPresident Radev Attends International Summit on Sport and Sustainable Development in Paris

Bulgarian President Rumen Radev took part in the International Summit on Sport and Sustainable Development, held in Paris on Thursday, on the eve of the 33rd Summer Olympic Games, July 26 - August 11, the President's Press Secretariat reported. Radev is in the French capital for the opening of the Olympics at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron. The summit was hosted by President Macron and International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach.

The meeting focused on promoting children's health and education, improving access to physical activity, using sport to build skills in young people, and enhancing people's well-being. The Paris Agreement for Sport and Sustainable Development was supported by the participants, including President Radev on behalf of Bulgaria. The agreement aims to contribute to the attainment of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by promoting sports.

The summit at the Louvre Palace was attended by heads of state and government, officials from international organizations, athletes, representatives of international sport federations, members of the Olympic movement and NGO representatives. The discussion involved five thematic circles alluding to the five Olympic rings.

On the sidelines of the summit, President Radev talked with UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay. The two discussed Bulgaria's good cooperation with the UN agency for education, science and culture and the need to popularize cultural and historical heritage among young people.

At a separate meeting, Radev and FIFA President Gianni Infantino talked about the importance of sport for the upbringing and the health of children and the objective of creating conditions for young people to be engaged in various physical activities.

On Friday, President Rumen Radev and his wife Dessislava Radeva will attend the opening ceremony for the 2024 Olympics, in which Bulgaria will be represented by 46 athletes in 16 sports.
